In recent years, the increase in mobile devices has caused a surge in the purchase and use of casual games previously found only on game websites or Facebook. ”Draw Something”, a Pictionary-like game that pits two players together to guess what each other is drawing, is a popular casual game among these tech savvy device users.
In an interesting twist, however, this game may break into a field previously not thought of: primetime game shows.
According to Variety.com, CBS execs have won a bidding war to produce a game show based on Zynga’s “Draw Something”.
The show will reportedly be called “Draw”, and will be produced by Ryan Seacrest’s production company. You may recognize Seacrest as the host of the singing competition show American Idol or the radio talk show “American Top 40″.
The show will feature celebrities and everyday players facing off in the game’s familiar draw and guess theme. There will be a play at home aspect, although no celebrities have been named, and the series probably won’t be airing until sometime early next year.
This won’t be the first time a drawing show has hit the airwaves. In the 80′s and 90′s, “Pictionary” and “Win, Lose, or Draw” were televised draw and guess games as well. It will certainly be interesting to see if the popularity of the game will help raise this game show to shine above its predecessors.
