New security upgrades have been put in place for the popular Xbox LIVE service, and with this change, Microsoft recommends that all users update their passwords. A new security code may also be set that messages the users phone when changes or purchases have been made on their accounts.
Microsoft has also recently begun to take serious legal action against people who publicly post gamertags and usernames/passwords, as well as prosecuting anyone found buying or selling Xbox Live accounts. “It’s a good idea to change your password if you haven’t done so recently, and make sure to use a different username and password for Microsoft versus other online services you access,” Xbox Live general manager Alex Garden writes. The reasoning behind this may be clear to many tech savvy people, but using different account details will keep your account secure in case of a security breach on other sites or businesses that have your information.
