If you’re a fan of the RTS genre then this is a game for you. Remember the good old days of Red Alert 2, building truly epic armies of tesla tanks and wiping out opponents in one swift burst of electro static explosions? Welcome back. Red Alert 3 has evolved. Now with even more ways for you to annihilate your opponents.

The game this time round has a real focus on naval warfare with a lot of the constructible buildings having the ability to be built on water. Some of the naval battles I have been having thus far have been truly enormous. Trying to assault your opponent’s naval yard while he rains down pain with aeroplanes is extremely difficult. With the inclusion of land and surface amphibian war machines you can move armies over great distances with greater ease and protection than ever before. I previously mentioned armies of tesla tanks from previous Red Alert games, times have moved on. Now players can invoke the wrath of a vehicle named ‘Stingray’ One of the aforementioned land and surface craft fitted with tesla weaponry making for a truly deadly piece of equipment when faced with vast amounts of troops.

One of the greatest conventions from previous Command and Conquer is the fantastic cut scenes in between campaigns to move the story along. Red Alert 3 not only upholds this great fashion but exceeds it accordingly with many recognisable actors taking roles. These include Tim Curry and Peter Stormare.

Something myself and many others have gotten into the habit of is “Judging a book by its cover”. In gaming we can relate this to buying a game just for the looks and not considering the game play. However, you need not worry with Red Alert 3 because the graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is fluent and concise. I previously mentioned that there is a real focus on naval warfare in the game so it would be necessary for the water physics and graphics to be immense. I first really noticed how well the water had been done when I saw a rocket I had propelled at my enemy reflect in the water. The reflection also changed in reaction to the waves in the water. One of the most important factors which must be considered is the box art which course is fantastic.
